Moving Out On My Own
Iâll always remember my mother getting out of rehab,
She was gone for a good six months and I held it down while paying rent.
I was living good and making sure that my money was flowing,
When she got out, I wanted to revamp the apartment and make it look good.
On her way into the building, she noticed two white guys sitting in a car,
She felt nervous and when she got home, I just so happened to be there.
My day was starting later that morning and she told me she saw two white guys sitting in a car,
She said she knew they were looking for me and watching me.
I told her not to worry about anything but it was in the moment she spoke her truth,
She said itâs time for me to go and that she needed to have the place to herself.
That she wanted to stay clean and having me around wasnât going to help,
I argued with her asking where I was going to stay.
She told me she didnât care, as long as I was out by the end of the week,
Shocked and dismayed as I think back on it, I couldnât fight her on it.
If I did, she would call the cops and Iâm a done deal at that point,
Sheâd be messing up my money and I couldnât have that.
That was when I had to pack up my things and head out,
I didnât know where Iâd be staying but I knew Iâd figure it out.
If it meant sleeping in my car by the river, then Iâd do that,
I would land on a few couches of fellow gang members who had no kids.
Thatâs just how things went for a long while,
Until I was able to find somewhere to live on my own.
The time I had to take to find a place cut into my money flow,
I wanted to stay in Alphabet City so it was easier to move.
The only thing was, I knew I was being watched everywhere I went,
I also couldnât get a lavish place in a nice area, Iâd look too suspicious.
The only problem with trying to get a place outside of Alphabet City,
Theyâre doing credit checks, checking your income, etc.
Granted Iâve never been arrested, most places want to see your pay stubs,
Mine are from the streets, straight cash, Iâve never had a real job.
I donât know what that is and I never want to know,
Granted I know I canât do this forever and every dog has his day.
I knew I was staying in Alphabet City as far as getting a place,
The Housing Authority only cares if you can pay the rent on time.
They donât care how you pay them since a lot of people are on Section 8,
I knew Iâd be able to get a place in no time without any problems.
The other thing was because I was part of the Black Gang,
There was a need to stay in the same territory where I do my business.
I decided since I operate on Z street the most, I wouldnât get a place there.
